BEING
THE RESOLUTION OF THE YORUBA COUNCIL OF YOUTHS WORLWIDE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE
COUNCIL EMERGENCY MEETING ON STATE OF THE NATION HELD ON SUNDAY 26TH
JUNE, 2016 AT THE NATIONAL SECRETARIAT IN LAGOS.
Oladotun Hassan, Yoruba Council of Youths President |
DEMOCATIC JEOPARDY
We have watched with keen interests and unanimously resolved not to
fold our arms akimbo on the general indicators on nefarious state of the nation
vis-à-vis abysmal policies and tendencies, lack of internal democracy in the
polity and loss of moral values for democratic culture of good governance, rule
of law, adequate delivery of dividends of democracy, not forgetting the
nose-diving attitude of gross violation of the trite laws and principles of
checks and balance, separation of powers by the Executive arm of government led
by His Excellency, President Muhammodu
Buhari , GCFR via his appointed proxy; the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr.
Abubakar Malami, SAN ambushing by fiats rascality of high-handedness in the
ongoing ill-fated sporadic onslaughts against the leadership of the Red Upper
Chamber of the 8th National Assembly, The Senate, a situation that
calls for immediate cautioning to order, and this has raised a lot of doubts in
the minds of the majority of Nigerians and the entire world at large, capable of
upsetting the fragile peace in the country, causing an unquantifiable national
and international embarrassments and huge damages.
We frowned at the mannerisms of the misguided architectural positioning
in the fights against corruption without recourse to justice, fair hearing,
rule of law, most adversely to the greatest disadvantage of other sectors of
governance and navigation for economic progress, which can best be termed as an
act of ‘militarized vendetta’ and harm-twisting of the law for self inclined
political mileage, with the previous clandestinely motivated Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT)Trials
bordering on false declaration of assets and the recent framed-up allegation
and charges of Forgery of the Senate Standing Order an agenda calculated to overthrow
and overrule the election and general consensus of the majority of Senators, in
consonance with parliamentary procedures and practice within the succinct ambit
of the laws of Legislative immunity of Senate President Bukola Saraki, Deputy
President Ike Ekweremadu and other principal officers of the Senate amounts to
crossing the line of separation of powers and breach of democratic etiquettes
and acceptable standard tenets of true federalism and independence in a
presidential system of government.
We made this assertion in due realization of the facts that we have
lost counts on the numerous anti masses policies and actions without due
process to rule of law by the current administration of the federal government,
with unsurpassable attendant negative effects of misplaced priorities and lack
of economic blueprint on the progressive fundamental way forward out the
perilous woes, tribulations, national malaise of corruption and political
quagmires, where in the corruption war is now defined as witch crafted hunting
spree against perceived dissenting opinions of individuals, state governments
and organizations, and oppositions both within APC and PDP, which is tainted
with vexatious illegalities.
We use this medium to inform and remind the present administration to
be mindful of the her footsteps which is calculated at sinking the ship of the
nation, it must be well noted that, the attitude of The Attorney General of the
Federation is an abuse of office and sacking of the constitution of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, a total distraction from the purpose of the electing the
government in power, which has momentarily failed in its Change Mantra
promises, a motionless stalemate for Nigerians to reap the fruit of democratic
largesse.
The Nigerian people have enough economic hardship at this time
requiring the full attention and corporation of the three arms of government,
instead of these attempts to distract and politicize governance on the altar of
mediocrity and nepotism.
We are in a state of economic emergency such that what the National
Assembly needs at this perilous time are executive bills and proposals aimed at
resolving the untold hardships and hunger in the land, rising inflations, sky
rocketed high rate of unemployment and unabated spate loss of jobs, currency
depreciation, Niger Delta Avengers, IPOB, Fulani Herdsmen, Boko Haram, crime,
insurgency, terrorism and insecurity.
The National Assembly needs all the required supports to salvage, build
and strengthen institutions of government to earn more revenue through decisive
diversification of the over dependant interests on the dwindling oil sector to
other prosperous and growing sectors, fights corruption and eliminate waste and
leakages. Instead they are getting frustrative incursion and overbearing
hostile actions aimed at destabilizing the National Assembly and entire nation,
distracting senators from their constitutional duties of oversights functions
and ensuring good and accountable governance.
We see the latest machinated plot is an Executive coup d’état against
the Legislative arm, directed at forcing a change of leadership in the
Senate or, in the extreme case, ground the Red Chambers of the National
Assembly, based on reasonable foreseability rule of reasoning, the sudden
concocted rounding up of the two preceding officers of the Senate are preludes
to the facts which is crystal clear to the blind, and set-up predicated on a
preplanned agenda to be rail road and incarcerated in Kuje prison indefinitely,
or incapacitated from sitting at plenary through day-to-day trial matter that
is purely an internal affairs of the Senate.
We laconically reiterate and make our point clear as pivotal voice of
the entire Yoruba youths in the Southwestern region of Nigeria and Diaspora
that the individuals in the Executive and the All Progressives Congress party
leaders behind these shenanigan plots to desist henceforth, and not to mistake
the maturity and hand of co-operation and national interest of the National
Assembly Senate for stupidity and abrupt fear. For at a time like these which
requires all hands to be in concert on deck to navigated the hailing ship of
the nation to the expected promise land, and not nose-diving into a dungeon of
imminent total disaster, which is capable of destroying those behind the
hatchet, an impeachable offence against Mr President.
The current move clearly runs contrary to the Doctrine of Separation of
Powers and Checks and Balances, which are fundamental to the successful
operation of a presidential system of government. It a locus classicus
resolution by the Supreme Court in the decided case 0f Adesanya Vs Senate” That no one should seek to use the court to
achieve what he or she has failed to push through on the floor of the National
Assembly”.
Based on this premise, we demand the immediate stoppage and
discontinuance of the ongoing Charges at the court by the Minister of Justice
and AGF, Mr Malami against the Senate
President Bukola Saraki, Senator Ike
Ekweremadu and other principal members of the Senate including the Clark,
it will amount to an exercise in futility and time wasting for it to venture in
to this brouhaha at these critical state of our national life.
Furthermore, we inform as a
matter of necessity that ALL other
ongoing cases must as matter priority be discontinued in the interest of peace
and the general advantage of the good people of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria.
We have emphatically spoken!!!.
