Score Card: Obasanjo awards Buhari a Pass Mark

In spite of heavy criticisms of the All Progressives Congress, APC, led administration by many Nigerians, former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday, gave President Muhammadu Buhari a pass mark saying “so far, Buhari has not disappointed us”.
Speaking with newsmen in Taraba state, Obasanjo expressed confidence in President Buhari’s ability to “overcome” Nigeria’s challenges. “So far, Buhari has not disappointed us. I trust him (Buhari), he will not fail Nigerians. I know he will overcome the challenges the country is currently facing,” he said. Obasanjo also stressed that his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is final and cannot be reversed. He said that having drawn the curtain on his membership of the former ruling party, there is no coming back. “In the part of the country where I come from, there is a saying that you cannot say, ‘good night’ and come back to say ‘good evening’ in the same place. So for me, it is good night for the Peoples Democratic Party and that’s all.” Meanwhile, the General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare has appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience with President Buhari saying it is too early to judge him. Pastor Bakare who expressed confidence in the abilities of Buhari to turn the country around for the better, and bring the country “out of the woods”, said there is no pain without gain. The pastor was speaking at the presidential villa in Abuja after holding a closed door meeting with Buhari yesterday Said he: “It’s too early and just too soon to begin to judge. If there is anything I know about Mr. President, it is that he has a good heart. He loves this country and he wants the country to run well,” he said. But it takes time. I know we are all impatient and in a hurry and I trust we will come out of the woods. “When you are driving on a wrong direction, for example, you are going to Ibadan and you face Badagry, and you get to Cotonou and you realise you have gone in the wrong direction for too long a time, then you make a U-turn, there will be some suffering you have to go through. “Pain is part of gain. No pain no gain.” The years of wastage and all that we have done wrong has finally caught up with us. “All we are praying for is wisdom for this government to do things right and to do the right things so that gradually, we can begin to come out of the woods.” Bakare was Buhari’s running mate in 2011 when the president contested on the platform of the then Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

How ‘Doctor’ Swindled FRSC employee N6.7m, Suspect in EFCC’s net over the Love scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested one Chike Nnaemeka, alias Dr. Justified Isioma Nnaemeka Emerald, for conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of about N6.7million.
Nnaemeka, who claimed to be a gynaecologist, allegedly collected the sum of money, under different requests, from his victim, Ani Nkechi Joy, an employee of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, after she was introduced to him by one of her classmates at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State.
Following their meeting, the suspect, who also claimed to be an orphan and a lone Prince of Ihekpe Kingdom in Ogwuashi-Uku, Delta State, was joined in a traditional wedding with the victim on June 6, 2015.
In her petition, the complainant said: ‘‘During the wedding preparation, Justified brought up so many stories bordering on cultural issues that I or anyone from my family is not supposed to visit his home town until after my marriage. He also said that the tradition of his place as a lone Prince demands that I sponsor every financial aspect of the traditional marriage, but that he would refund me to the last one Naira I spent.”
However, the complainant became ensnared in the suspect’s web of lies when he claimed to have properties that both Zenith Bank Plc and Diamond Bank Plc were purportedly interested in.
The suspect was said to have shown the complainant some documents to the properties, while also requesting her to provide some money to enable him complete the process.
Unsuspectingly, the complainant allegedly transferred some amounts of money to the suspect, after being assured that he would refund her.
But on December 23, 2015, the suspect allegedly left the house on the pretence that he was going to sign the agreement papers with the respective bank to finalise the transaction.
He, however, did not return home until December 29, 2015.
According to the complainant, the suspect allegedly claimed that the lawyer to the bank had died and that his lawyer would not allow anyone else to sign the papers, except a legal practitioner.
At this stage, the complainant became suspicious and made frantic efforts to inquire about the suspect’s real identity and what he does for a living from some of his acquaintances.
Also, the complainant alleged that the suspect stole the sum of $3000 belonging to her boss.
When the complainant asked the suspect about the missing money, the suspect allegedly said that the Chief Priest of his village said it was a spirit that stole it.
Meanwhile, investigation has revealed that the suspect, who is married to another woman who had three children for him, also lied that his mother passed on some years back.
According to statement by Wilson Uwujaren, Head, Media & Publicity, the suspect will soon be charged to court, after investigation is concluded.

Alleged Defamation of Character: Alaafin Drags Ex-Oyo Federal Lawmaker, Two Others to Court

A former member of the House of Representatives representing Oyo Federal Constituency, Mr. Kamil Akinlabi, and two others – Chief Jacob Oluokun and Chief Isola Ajiboye – were on Thursday docked at an Oyo High Court for allegedly maligning the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
They were arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy to commit to wit, defamation of character, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, and a newspaper publication accusing the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, of committing crimes.  All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In his submission, counsel to the defendants, Abiodun Abduraman Abduraheem, solicited for bail for the accused on self recognition.  He said the accused were not arrested but came to court
on their volition.  Abiodun, who cited Section 36 (5) of the Constitution, also quoted Section 118 of the criminal procedure law of Oyo State to buttress his argument.
In his reaction, counsel to the plaintiff, J.I. Ebusemebe, objected to the bail, arguing that there was no formal application for bail.
In his ruling, Justice Tayo Taiwo granted the accused persons bail on personal recognition, warning that failure to appear on the next hearing day would be viewed seriously.
Justice Taiwo adjourned the case till August 30. However, the atmosphere was charged as the court was filled to the brim.
